Lexus Wrexham Open 2025: Billie Jean King Cup star Jodie Burrage headlines entry list
• 2 MINUTE READ
Billie Jean King Cup star Jodie Burrage heads a strong entry of British players at this month’s Lexus Wrexham Open as world class tennis comes to North Wales.
Burrage, the current British No.5, features on the entry list for the prestigious W100 event, which will take place on the indoor courts at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre between 19-26 October.
The Lexus Wrexham Open - the biggest women's tennis tournament, outside of the grass court season, to be played in the UK this year - has replaced the Lexus W100 Shrewsbury in the LTA Performance Competitions Calendar for 2025.
Amarni Banks and Lily Miyazaki, both ranked in the British top 10, are also set to play in the tournament, along with rising Welsh teenage star Mimi Xu.
The entry list of international players includes French ace Harmony Tan, who hit the headlines in 2022 by beating Serena Williams at Wimbledon in the final appearance at SW19 for the seven-time champion. Tan went on to reach the last 16 that year.
Jessika Ponchet, also from France, progressed to the last 32 of the US Open last year, while the entry list for Wrexham also features Swiss player Valentina Ryser, winner of two ITF titles earlier this year, and Italian Camilla Rosatello, who won the ITF W75 Bucharest tournament in Romania earlier this month. Rosatello, back in 2017, claimed the scalp of current world No.1, Aryna Sabalenka, during US Open so has an impressive pedigree.
Dave Courteen, tournament promoter for the Lexus Wrexham Open, said: “It’s a really strong field with lots of up and coming players, rising stars of the future, as well as players who have already enjoyed notable success in their careers.
“It’s always exciting to look at the acceptance list when it’s revealed to see the quality of the players to have entered the tournament and it’s pleasing to see that so many talented British players are coming to Wrexham to play.
"Jodie Burrage was in the Great Britain team which recently reached the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup finals in China and is currently ranked just inside the world’s 150 having been as high as 85.
“Amarni Banks reached the final of this event when it was held in Shrewsbury in 2023, and Mimi Xu enjoyed an excellent grass court season in which she also became the first Welsh player to play in the singles main draw at Wimbledon for 20 years when she faced Emma Raducanu.
“There’s lots to look forward to, tickets for the event are selling extremely well, and excitement is really starting to build the closer we get to the start of the tournament.”
