WTA draw – Kartal & Dart clash with major champions

In the WTA draws, local star Sonay Kartal and former quarter-finalist Harriet Dart take on past Grand Slam champions in Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova.

Brighton-native Kartal will face former Roland Garros title-winner and Eastbourne champion Ostapenko in the first round – looking to get her second top 20 win of the summer so far. A win would see her face Italian Lucia Bronzetti or a qualifier.

Meanwhile, Dart has been dealt a difficult draw against reigning Wimbledon champion Krejcikova. The Czech star has had a long spell out with injuries this season but returned at Roland Garros and HSBC Championships – she’s still yet to get a win on the grass this year.

Emma Raducanu comes in as the seventh seed looking to better her quarter-final performance last year. She starts her campaign against American Ann Li and could play former Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur in the second round. If she were to make a return to the quarter-finals, she could face top seed and last year’s champion Daria Kasatkina.

In-form rising star Mimi Xu will make her Eastbourne debut taking on sixth seed Peyton Stearns. Last week Xu got her first WTA win in Nottingham and also made quarter-finals in Birmingham.

Francesca Jones will have to wait to see who she plays first round having drawn a qualifier with a win potentially seeing her face Nottingham runner-up Dayana Yastremska or Magda Linette.

Jodie Burrage has been drawn against Moyuka Uchijima with the winner taking on either Dart or Krejcikova in round two. Burrage lost on their only previous meeting in Stanford two years ago.

ATP draw – Brits to face seeds in opening rounds

British No.2 Jacob Fearnley has been handed a tough opening round match against fifth seed and world No.26 Flavio Cobolli. Should he come through the first round, the Queen’s Club quarter-finalist will play the winner of Marcos Giron against Luciano Darderi before a potential last eight clash with reigning champion Taylor Fritz.

Speaking of Fritz, the American has a bye in the first round, but could play Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca in the second round.

Cam Norrie will have a tough challenge in the opening round as he gets set to face big-serving French star and seventh seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Dan Evans will play former Queen’s runner-up Miomir Kecmanovic with the winner to play American second seed Tommy Paul in round two.

The week following the news that he will have a wild card into Wimbledon this year, Ilkley runner-up Jack Pinnington Jones takes on eighth seed Nuno Borges of Portugal in the first round. If he wins, he could play Alexander Bublik in the next round who recently defeated world No.1 Jannik Sinner on his way to the title in Halle.

The Lexus Eastbourne Open gets underway on Monday 23 June with all live coverage across he BBC and Tennis Channel.
