Lexus Eastbourne Open 2026 player list

British players

Brighton-born Sonay Kartal is returning to the south coast this summer as she prepares to compete at her home tournament. The British No.2 used to visit the tournament as a young girl and will be hoping to become the first British woman to be crowned champion in Eastbourne since Virginia Wade in 1975.

Kartal enjoyed a summer to remember on the grass last year, picking up wins at the HSBC Championships and Lexus Nottingham Open before recording her best Grand Slam run to date by reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Kartal has been forced to skip the clay court season due to injury but will be gunning to make a fast start on the grass where she'll be eyeing up some big results once again.

Top seeds

WTA ATP
Jasmine Paolini (ITA) Taylor Fritz (USA)
Madison Keys (USA) Valentin Vacherot (MON)
Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) Arthur Rinderknech (FRA)

Ones to watch

Four-time Eastbourne champion Taylor Fritz arrives as the top seed and will be the one to beat in the men's draw. The American has made Eastbourne a home away from home in recent years, lifting the silverware four times since making his debut in 2019.

However, rising teenage stars Joao Fonseca and Rafael Jodar will be ones to watch as they look to dethrone the world No.9. Fonseca won two ATP titles last year while Spain's Jodar is enjoying a breaktout year - lifting his maiden tour-level title and climbing into the world's top 30.

Former champion Francisco Cerundolo will also be hoping to regain his title, and is joined in the singles main draw by his brother Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

On the women's side, former Wimbledon runner-up and world No.13 Jasmine Paolini will be hunting down a first trophy on the grass. The top seed reached the semi-final in 2024 and will be hoping for another strong showing this time out.

She's joined by former champions Madison Keys and Jelena Ostapenko and 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova who will be aiming to pick up her first WTA title since beating Paolini in the final at SW19 two years ago.

Past British success in Eastbourne

Virginia Wade is the only British player to have won a singles title in Eastbourne back in 1975, when she defeated Billie Jean King 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the final.

Wade also finished runner-up in 1974 and 1976 but lost both finals to American Chris Evert.

She also shared the women’s doubles title in 1976 after her final match with Olga Morozova against Evert and Martia Navratilova was abandoned in the second set due to rain.

Jo Durie and Anne Hobbs finished runners-up in the 1983 women’s doubles and a year later, Durie lost in the final again alongside Ann Kiyomura of the USA.

Since the introduction of the men’s event in 2009, there have been eight British men’s doubles title winners: Colin Fleming (2012), Ross Hutchins (2012), Dom Inglot (2014), Luke Bambridge (2018), Jonny O’Mara (2018), Neal Skupski (2024), Julian Cash (2025) and Lloyd Glasspool (2025).
