British success at the Lexus Birmingham Open

There is yet to be a British singles champion at the Lexus Birmingham Open, with the 2026 titles going to Alexandra Eala in the women’s singles and Yunchaokete Bu in the men’s singles.

British players have, however, enjoyed success in the doubles. Jo Durie and Anne Hobbs remain the only British women to have lifted the doubles trophy, winning the title in the first year of the tournament in 1982 after beating the American-Australian duo of Rosie Casals and Wendy Turnbull 6-3, 6-2.

With British talent continuing to feature strongly at the tournament, could we see a home singles champion in future years?
