Davis Cup 2025: Meet the Poland team set to face Great Britain

• 3 MINUTE READ

Great Britain will take on Poland from 12-13 September in a must-win World Group I tie at the Polsat Puls Gdynia in Poland.

The Brits have to win to be included in the draw for the Davis Cup Qualifiers next season for a chance to make the 2026 Finals.

This week, both team captains announced their squads for the upcoming tie – including several debuts for British stars.

Poland Captain Mariusz Fyrstenberg has named a young team that will be without their top three ranked singles players – Hubert Hurkacz, Kamil Majchrzak and Daniel Michalski.

Take a look at which players will line-up for Poland and find out more about GB’s opponents:

Poland Davis Cup team

Poland have competed in the Davis Cup since 1925 and made their debut in the World Group back in 2016 after beating Slovakia in a Play-Off tie the previous year.

This is the second consecutive year that they have reached the World Group I stage, but they lost to Korea Republic 3-1 in a home tie to miss out on a place in the Davis Cup Qualifiers.

Poland are looking to make the Qualifiers for the Davis Cup Finals for the first time under the new competition format.

2025 team:

  • Maks Kasnikowski
  • Olaf Pieczkowski
  • Tomasz Berkieta
  • Karol Drzewiecki
  • Jan Zielinski

Maks Kasnikowski

  • Age: 22
  • Singles ranking: 430
  • Doubles ranking: 1195
  • Davis Cup record: 3-2

Kasnikowski is the most experienced singles player on the Polish team this year and has had some strong success in his career so far. He’s a three-time ATP Challenger Tour singles finalist – winning two titles last year in Oeiras on hard courts and at the Poznan Open on Clay. He is one of only three Polish players to win the Poznan Open after two former top-15 players – Hurkacz (2018) and Jerzy Janowicz (2012).

Added to that, he’s won five ITF singles titles, including his most recent trophy at the M25 Koszalin in June, and has a career-high ranking at world No.168. In their Davis Cup World Group Play-Off tie with Georgia earlier this year, Kasnikowski beat Saba Purtseladze 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Olaf Pieczkowski

  • Age: 21
  • Singles ranking: 476
  • Doubles ranking: 1147
  • Davis Cup record: 3-0

Pieczkowski is still early in his professional career after reaching world No.13 as a junior and has been putting in the work during the 2025 season. He’s played 22 tournaments so far this year, winning two singles titles at the M15 Oslo and M15 Monastir, and had victories at five ATP Challenger events.

He made his Davis Cup debut three years ago in 5-0 win over Indonesia and is so far undefeated in the two ties he’s played in so far.

Tomasz Berkieta

  • Age: 19
  • Singles ranking: 544
  • Doubles ranking: 660
  • Davis Cup record: 1-0

Berkieta is one of the brightest young stars in Polish tennis – now competing on the professional tours after a stellar junior career. The 19-year-old reached No.6 in the junior world rankings and made the final of Junior Roland Garros in 2024 and the semi-final at the Australian Open the year prior.

Now coached by Piotr Sierzputowski – who previously coached six-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek – Berkieta has since won an ITF singles title at the M15 Messina and has two doubles trophies to his name as well. Known for his big serve, Berkieta will be one to watch at the Polsat Puls Gdynia.

Karol Drzewiecki

  • Age: 29
  • Singles ranking: 1801
  • Doubles ranking: 84
  • Davis Cup record: 2-1

Drzewiecki will come into the Davis Cup having recently reached the US Open men’s doubles third round with British player Marcus Willis – his best run at a Grand Slam to date. The doubles specialist is close to breaking his career-best ranking of world No.84, having made his debut at all four majors this season.

The 29-year-old has won 26 doubles titles since 2015 – including 15 ATP Challenger Tour trophies. This season he’s won titles in Cordoba, Oeiras, and San Marino, which was the biggest trophy of his career so far.

In all three of his Davis Cup appearances for Poland, Drzewiecki has teamed up with Zielinski – most recently this year, defeating Alexandre Bakshi and Zura Tkemaladze in straight sets.

Jan Zielinski

  • Age: 28
  • Doubles ranking: 46
  • Davis Cup record: 6-4

Zielinski is the highest ranked singles or doubles player in the Polish side and brings a wealth of experience from the ATP Tour. The 28-year-old is a former world No.7 in doubles and reached the final of the Australian Open with Hugo Nys back in 2023.

He is also a two-time men’s doubles quarter-finalist at the US Open and in 2024 won the mixed doubles titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon alongside Hseih Su-Wei – the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam mixed doubles event.

He’s won five ATP titles in his career – most recently in Acapulco last season – and boasts 132 ATP Tour victories. So far this season, he has made the final in Rotterdam, Marseille and Bastad, and the third round of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
