County Open Days

County Open Days are fun and engaging talent identification events designed not only to help young players take their first steps into the county tennis pathway, but also to help players and parents feel connected to the county and the opportunities, people and support around it.
Hosted by County Tennis Associations, these events bring together children who have been nominated by local coaches, clubs and venues because they have shown exciting potential and a real enthusiasm for the game.
The day is not about finding the “finished player”. Instead, it’s about identifying young players who show strong foundations and talent characteristics that could help them develop over time.
Who are the County Open Days for?
County Open Days are aimed at young players, typically aged 5 to 7 years old, who:
- Have shown promise within their club or coaching programme
- Enjoy playing and learning
- Are enthusiastic about tennis
- Are ready to experience playing and learning in a new environment
What can I expect from a County Open Day?
County Open Days are designed to be energetic, enjoyable and player-centred.
Throughout the day, players take part in a variety of activities and games that allow coaches to observe different aspects of their development in a relaxed and engaging environment.
Sessions may include:
- Warm-ups and athletic activities
- Balance, agility and coordination exercises
- Movement challenges and team games
- Rally and ball control activities
- Fun competitive tasks and matchplay-based games
It is also an opportunity for the county to speak directly to parents about who they are, the role they play in supporting player development, and how the county pathway fits within the wider British tennis pathway.
This helps families understand the kinds of county-level opportunities that may be available over time, and what those next steps could look like for their child.
