Who won May Player of the Month?
With voting now closed on May’s LTA Player of the Month vote, it’s time to reveal the winners from Men’s, Women’s, Doubles and Wheelchair categories.
All of the winners were all voted for by you, our LTA Advantage members.
Without further ado, here are your May Players of the Month:
Men’s: Andy Murray
May marked one to remember for former world No.1 Murray, who had one of the most memorable months of his career in recent years.
Following a first round exit at the Masters 1000 Madrid, Murray headed to France for the Aix-en-Provence ATP Challenger event, where he breezed past the field to set up a final showdown against world No.17 Tommy Paul.
Despite trailing a set, the Brit pulled off a comeback win to lift his first singles title since 2019 and ended the month ranked world No.41 – his highest ranking in five years.
Women’s: Katie Boulter
Boulter’s performances in May saw her make back-to-back finals on the ITF tour, which has proven to be a catalyst for her recent form.
Her month began with a run to the final at W80 Gifu, where she breezed through to the final without dropping a set before just missing out on the title to home favourite Himeno Sakatsume 7-5, 6-3.
With momentum under her belt, Boulter then went on make a second consecutive final at the W60 Fukuoka. Another impressive week of performances saw the newly crowned British No.1 battle through a tough field before she eventually finished runner-up.
Doubles: Joe Salisbury
World No.6 Salisbury has gone from strength-to-strength this season alongside American doubles partner Rajeev Ram, with the duo picking up their first title of the season in May at the Lyon Open.
Entering the Lyon Open off the back of a quarter-final appearance at the Masters 1000 Rome, the British, American duo continued to build on their moment and found themselves with a tough challenge against Nicolas Mahut and Matwe Middelkoop in the final. In a dominant display, Salisbury and Ram overcome their opponents 6-3, 6-0 to take the crown and set themselves up as ones to watch ahead of the grass court season.
Wheelchair: Alfie Hewett
Hewett was a standout star in the month of May, as helped guide his country to gold in the World Team Cup, as well as clinching a doubles title with compatriot Gordon Reid.
He kicked-off the month as part of the trio that led Great Britain to the World Team Cup title. Hewett won all five rubbers he played across the week and played a pivotal role in Great Britain’s 2-0 victory over the Netherlands.
From there, the world No.2 went on to lift the Tram Barcelona Open doubles trophy alongside fellow Brit, Reid whilst also making the semi-finals of the singles event.
