Player of the Month: March 2024 winners announced
The results are in and it’s time to crown your players of the month for March.
With a number of standout performances across the month and biggest career titles, it was a tough one to call but here’s who you voted as the best British tennis players of last month.
Women’s singles – Katie Boulter
What a month it was for British No.1 Katie Boulter who continued to break new ground and make a statement on the WTA tour. March saw Boulter clinch her second tour-level title at the WTA 500 event in San Diego. The 27-year-old defeated four of the top seven seeds en route to the biggest title of her career, including Beatriz Haddad Maia, Emma Navarro and Marta Kostyuk.
This milestone saw her break into the world's top 30 for the first time and climb to a career-high ranking of world No.27.
As a results of a strong week in San Diego, Boulter then entered the Miami Open as a seeded player for the first time in her career, where she went on to reach the fourth round.
Could she be set for another stellar month in April?
Men’s singles – Andy Murray
Andy Murray has been crowned your men’s Player of the Month off the back of his best run of the year so far.
The three-time Grand Slam champion reached the second round at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after defeating Denis Shapovalov – marking his 500th hard court win. This achievement made him only the fifth player in the Open Era to do so, behind Rafael Nadal (517), Andre Agassi (592), Novak Djokovic (700) and Roger Federer (783).
He then went on to reach the second round at Indian Wells before knocking out former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini and world No.30 Tomas Martin Etcheverry en route to the third round at the Miami Open.
Doubles – Olivia Nicholls
There was no stopping Olivia Nicholls in March with the doubles star collecting back-to-back titles, making her a well-worthy winner of the doubles player of the month title.
Joining forces with Olivia Gadecki, Nicholls triumphed at the ATX Open to win the joint best title of her career at the WTA 250 event. The British, Australian duo defeated Bibiane Schoofs and Katarzyna Kawa 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
The pair then went on to compete at the WTA 125 Charleston where they claimed a second consecutive crown. Nicholls closed out an impressive month having lost just one set and was rewarded with a 16-place jump in the rankings to conclude the month at world No.78.
Wheelchair – Alfie Hewett
Alfie Hewett is back on top of the world rankings, after sealing two singles and one doubles title through March.
The 26-year-old finished the month unbeaten, having etched his name onto the silverware at the Georgia Open and Cajun Classic where he defeated Tokito Oda both times in the final. Hewett also teamed up with doubles partner Gordon Reid for the Cajun Classic doubles draw where they went on to lift the trophy.
