Domestic Competition

Wrexham, Glasgow and Nottingham among international tennis hosts as remainder of LTA Performance Competitions Calendar confirmed

• 2 minute read

The second half of the LTA’s 2026 Performance Competitions Calendar has been revealed, with cities across the country set to host men’s and women’s international tennis events in the remainder of 2026.

As well as Wrexham hosting an ITF W100 event in October for the second year in a row and bringing world-class tennis to North Wales with the Lexus Wrexham Open, Glasgow, Aldershot, Nottingham, Edgbaston and Roehampton will also host women’s ITF World Tennis Tour events.

On the men’s side, there will be ITF events hosted in Sheffield, Redbridge, Roehampton and Aldershot, in addition to three ATP Challenger events; the Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre will once again host a Challenger event on grass during the second week of Wimbledon, before the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton hosts two new Challenger tournaments in August, upgrading what were previously ITF M25 level events.

In wheelchair competition, Abingdon will continue to host some of the world’s best up-and-coming wheelchair players at the Abingdon Futures WC75 event, which will take place in late October. This will come at the end of a year that has seen an expanded disability competitions calendar, marked by a 20% increase in funding for wheelchair tennis events and the Lexus British Open Roehampton receiving an increased WC1000 sanction, alongside greater investment across the plethora of disability tennis competitions and formats.

In total, a further 13 professional international tournaments across the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tours will take place in the latter half of 2026, building on the 17 held in the first half of the year prior to The Championships, Wimbledon. So far in 2026, 21 unique pro titles have been won by British players at LTA-delivered events, demonstrating the positive impact of investing in domestic events on up-and-coming British players.

International opportunities continue to be on offer for Britain’s best junior players, with ITF World Tennis Tour junior events and the Tennis Europe Junior Tour offering young Brits the chance to test themselves against some of the world’s best on home soil. As well as international events, domestic pro-level tournaments on the Lexus British Tour give prize money, ranking point, and wildcard-earning opportunities across Britain. Meanwhile, junior players from 9U to 18U can compete on the Lexus British Junior Tour.

Delivering these competitive opportunities for British junior and professional players is a key priority for the LTA. Where other countries such as Italy benefit from investment either from regional governments or local businesses to be able to hold events, the culture in Britain over many decades has been for the LTA to shoulder the full cost of tournament organisation. The Performance Competitions Calendar has been successful in growing the number of international tournaments held in Britain, but it has also been successful in ensuring those events deliver the maximum positive impact for players across the year through strategic placement in the tennis calendar.

LTA Managing Director of Performance Michael Bourne said, “In confirming the remainder of our 2026 Performance Competitions Calendar, we are showing our continued commitment to hosting as many events as we can to give British players the chance to progress at the professional level. Since launching in 2022, the Performance Competitions Calendar has helped many players to move up the rankings who are now among the world’s best, including Sonay Kartal, Henry Patten and Julian Cash, and we’re looking forward to seeing who the next players to follow in their footsteps will be.”
