Which British players will be competing at the Madrid Open 2026?

Jack Draper will be returning to Madrid this season, one year on from his run to the final at the Madrid Open – his first ATP Masters 1000 final on clay.
Despite finishing runner-up to Casper Ruud in three sets, Draper showed he has the game on clay to beat some of the top players in the world and go all the way at a signature event like the Madrid Open.
The Briton marked his return from injury with a win over Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells before losing out in the quarter-final. After an early exit in Miami, the Brit withdrew from the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters.
Now British No.1 Cam Norrie has enjoyed some strong results so far this year, including a quarter-final in Indian Wells and reaching the third round of the Australian Open.
He lost out in the second round of Monte Carlo to Alex De Minaur, but has shown his quality on the clay previously, winning two of his five ATP titles on the surface.
Emma Raducanu is scheduled to make her return from illness at this year’s WTA 1000 event in Madrid, which will be her first match since losing to Amanada Anisimova in the third round of Indian Wells.
Raducanu’s best result of the season so far has been a runner-up finish at the Transylvania Open and she will be hoping to build some momentum on clay over the next month.
Katie Boulter completes the main draw entry list for the Brits after Sonay Kartal was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Boulter won her fourth WTA title in Ostrava this season and last year bagged her first clay court trophy at the WTA 125 Trophee Clarins.
Past British performances at the Madrid Open

Former world No.1 Andy Murray is the only British tennis player to date who has been crowned the Madrid Open men’s singles champion and has won the tournament twice.
His first title came in 2008 when the event was played on a hard court, with the Brit recording a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory against Frenchman Gilles Simon to clinch the silverware.
In 2015, six years after the tournament transitioned to a clay surface, Murray beat clay-court maestro Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2 to clinch his second crown at the tournament, before finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic the following year.
Last year, Draper reached his first clay court final at the ATP Masters 1000 event, beating Matteo Berrettini, Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Musetti. However, the British star finished runner-up to Casper Ruud 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
Neal Skupski is the most recent British title winner, lifting the trophy in 2022 with Wesley Koolhof after beating Columbian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-7,(3), 6-4, 10-5 in the final.
