Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara have booked their place in a fifth final of the season at the Mutua Madrid Open following a semi-final retirement.
Patten and Heliovaara took on fellow Brit Luke Johnson and Poland’s Jan Zielinski in the last four and were leading 6-3, 4-3 before their opponents were forced to retire.
The two-time Grand Slam champions have been one of the standout teams of the 2026 season - lifting titles in Adelaide, Doha and Dubai, as well as finishing runners-up at the Miami Open.
The Madrid Open final will mark their third on a clay court since joining forces two years ago.
Patten and Heliovaara have found strong form in the Spanish capital this week, dropping just one set en route to the final. There, they will face either the all-Argentinian pairing of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni or Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard.
The third seeds made a commanding start to their semi-final clash, delivering an impressive performance on serve and dropping just nine points across the 56-minute encounter.
Patten and Heliovaara looked to assert themselves early, earning a break point in the opening service game of the British, Polish duo before capitalising on their second opportunity in the fourth game to move a set ahead.
British No.6 Johnson and Polish partner Zielinski raised their level in the second set, carving out their first break point chances on the former Australian Open and Wimbledon champions’ serve. However, Patten and Heliovaara remained composed under pressure, saving both opportunities to hang firm.
Continuing to build momentum, the British, Finnish pairing struck again in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead before Johnson and Zielinski were forced to retire - sending Patten and Heliovaara through to the final at the Caja Magica.
There, the pair will bid to lift their fourth title of the season and second ATP Masters 1000 title together.
