Greg Slade has made his debut at the top of the British wheelchair quad singles rankings heading into the final part of the grass court season.
Slade has become the new British No.1 having overtaken his doubles partner Andy Lapthorne, who held the top spot since September 2013.
The 24-year-old, who was competing at the WC500 at the Lexus Eastbourne Open this week, will move to a new career-high ranking of world No.8.
"It’s an honour to become British No.1 in quad singles," he said. "My team and I have been working incredibly hard over the last couple years to improve my ranking, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to tick off another career milestone. I hope there are many more to come."
Slade has won eight World Tennis singles titles in his career and also reached his first Grand Slam doubles final at Wimbledon last year.
The Brit got his 2026 season off to a strong start when he made a run to the WC1000 Melbourne Wheelchair Open quarter-finals, seeing off world No.4 Ahmet Kaplan in the second round.
Slade narrowly missed out on the title at the Bolton Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in February to Australia’s Benjamin Wenzel. However, the Brit continued to build momentum with deep runs in Daegu and Seoul, as well as another WC1000 quarter-final in Iizuka.
Kicking off his grass court season in Eastbourne, Slade lost in the first round of the singles to the eventual champion Jin Woodman, before the Brit has paired up with Lapthorne for the doubles competition, where they finished [EASTBOURNE RESULT].
Next up, Slade will be looking ahead to the Lexus British Open Roehampton before heading off to Wimbledon where he’ll hope to replicate last year’s success – the British No.1 made it to the semi-final at both events.
