Charles Broom sweeps aside competition as Brits claim two titles at Lexus British Pro Series Nottingham

Britain’s Charles Broom lived up to his billing as the top seed to claim his first title of 2025 at the Lexus British Pro Series Nottingham, concluding a successful fortnight for the Brit at the Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre.
Ater finishing runner-up in the previous week’s ITF M25 event in Nottingham, Broom was determined to go one step further this time round, reaching Sunday’s final without dropping a set.
He faced Italian Fabrizio Andaloro, who had already knocked out two Brits en-route to the final. After a cagey opening, the decisive moment came at the end of the first set, as Broom broke to take the first set before going on to win 6-4, 6-3 and seal the title.
After the match, Broom said, “It’s been fantastic, the run I’ve had the last couple of weeks gives me a lot of confidence going forward. I’ve played some tough matches, not least the final today where I felt like I was in control and he managed to peg me back a bit, but I managed to get through it.
"I love coming back and playing here, and with grass court season coming up in a few weeks, I’d love to do well here again.”
In the men’s doubles, British pair Liam Hignett and James MacKinlay won their second ITF doubles title as a pair, overcoming fellow Brits James Story and Finn Murgett in the final.
With both pairs coming through match tie breaks to reach the final, it was a test of who could handle the recovery better, with Hignett and MacKinlay ultimately prevailing 6-4 6-0 over their opponents.
Speaking on bringing home the trophy, Hignett and MacKinlay said, “They got us in the match tiebreak last week, but it was good for us to have a reset the rest of that week, just relaxing, coming back and doing the job well this week.”
On the women’s side, Naiktha Bains enjoyed a strong showing across both the singles and doubles draws, reaching the finals of both. After winning the previous week’s doubles title with Holly Hutchinson, the pair reached a second final in as many weeks, and started off strongly against the French-Kosovoan pair of Alice Robbe and Arlinda Rushiti. taking the first set 6-4.
After the Brits took the first set, it looked as though they were going to secure a second title of the fortnight, but their opponents fought back to take the title 4-6, 6-4, 10-5. In the singles, Bains reached her first final since February, but fell just short against Spain’s Eva Guerrero Alvarez 6-2, 7-6(7).
Tournament Director Richard Joyner said, “We’ve seen another great week of action here at the Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre. After coming so close last week, it was great to see Charles Broom claim the men's singles title in another all-British final, while Naiktha Bains had a brilliant week across the women's singles and doubles, and was unlucky to finish runner-up in both her finals.
"Congratulations to all the winners across the finals this week, and many thanks to all the staff here in Nottingham for helping to stage two great events over the last fortnight.”
