Cam Norrie returns to British No.1 spot for first time in two years

• 1 minute read

Cam Norrie has become the new British No.1, having reclaimed the position for the first time since June 2024.

The 30-year-old has risen five places to world No.24 in the ATP rankings, following a memorable fortnight at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

This is the second time Norrie has held the top spot in the men’s British rankings, with his first stint coming off the back of his run to the 2021 Indian Wells title - the biggest title of his career to date. He held the position from October 2021 to June 2024.

Norrie overtakes former world No.4 Jack Draper, who had been the British No.1 since June 2024 following his maiden ATP title at the Stuttgart Open. Draper then went on to lift a further two tour-level trophies, including the 2025 Indian Wells crown and reached the semi-final of the US Open in September 2024.

Draper is now ranked just two spots below Norrie at world No.26, with just 43 ranking points separating them.

The former world No.8 achieved this feat after a standout campaign at Indian Wells, that saw him knock out Mackenzie McDonald, sixth seed Alex de Minaur and Rinky Hijikata on his way to the quarter-finals. There, he fell short to world No.1 and two-time Indian Wells champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Despite his recent impressive results, it hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing for Norrie since he last held the British No.1 spot. In April 2025, Norrie had fallen to No.91 in the ATP rankings but soon regained his form last summer where he strung together some deep runs at some of the biggest tournaments.

He backed up a fourth-round appearance at Roland Garros by reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the second time in his career. The 30-year-old capped off the season by making the final of the Moselle Open, where he narrowly lost out on the silverware to Learner Tien. As a result, Norrie finished the season back inside the world’s top 30, ranked at world No.27.

The five-time ATP titleholder has already sealed some impressive wins this season - highlighted by his latest run in the Californian desert.

Norrie will be hoping to push his ranking further over the next couple of weeks, with the Brit turning his attention to the next Masters 1000 event at the Miami Open.

If Norrie is to keep his position at the top of the British rankings, he will need to go at least one round further than Draper in Miami.
