Cajun Classic 2026: Alfie Hewett sets up semi-final clash with Martin De La Puente

• 1 minute read

Alfie Hewett will head up the British challenge in the Cajun Classic singles semi-finals after cruising to victory over Ruben Spaargaren.

Hewett wasted little time in booking his place in the final four by knocking out the seventh seed 6-0, 6-2.

In the semi-finals, he will play Spain’s third seed Martin De La Puente. Hewett has a 29-3 winning record against the Spaniard but lost their most recent meeting at the Australian Open.

Hewett is bidding to win his third straight singles trophy at the Cajun Classic this year,

However, Britain’s Gordon Reid lost out in his singles quarter-final against world No.1 Tokito Oda 6-2, 6-4.

In the quad singles, Andy Lapthorne was also defeated in the quarter-finals by third seed Guy Sasson 6-2, 6-4.

There are four Brits still competing in the doubles draws at Baton Rouge this week, aiming to reach Saturday’s finals.

Hewett and Reid will play De La Puente and Stephane Houdet in the semi-finals as they continue their pursuit of a fourth consecutive title at the Cajun Classic.

Lucy Shuker and Dutch partner Aniek Van Koot continue their title defence against Jinte Bos and Lizzy De Greef in the semi-finals.

Last year, Shuker won the biggest title of her career in Baton Rouge and is coming off a victory at the Bolton Indoor WT 175 back in February.

Finally, second seeds Lapthorne and Australia’s Heath Davidson will look to book their final place against Turkey’s Ahmet Kaplan and Australia’s Benjamin Wenzel.

They will be hoping to reach their fourth doubles final together this season.
