US Open 2025: Francesca Jones qualifies for main draw debut
• 1 MINUTE READ
British No.4 Francesca Jones has fought her way into the main draw of the US Open for the first time, coming through three rounds of qualifying.
The 24-year-old thrashed Arianne Hartono 6-2, 6-4 in the final round of qualifiers to book a spot in this year’s women’s singles draw starting on Sunday 24 August.
Jones set the tone in her third qualifying tie, racing out to an early 4-0 lead and she never looked back. The Bradford-native broke twice in the second set to see out a milestone win in an hour and 20 minutes.
She will join compatriots Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal as one of four British players in the women’s draw.
The British star was the top seed in qualifying and recorded three straight sets victories, including wins over Viktoria Hruncakova and Ekaterine Gorgodze as well.
Jones has been in stunning form of late, winning the two biggest titles of her career at the WTA 125 events in Contrexeville and Palermo.
The success has seen her break into the top 100 for the first time – currently ranked as the world No.86.
However, on the men’s side, Britain’s Billy Harris was unable to get over the line in the final round of qualifiers – losing out to Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong 6-3, 6-4.
Last year’s semi-finalist Jack Draper, Cam Norrie and Jacob Fearnley will make up the British male challenge this year.
The draws for the US Open main draw were announced yesterday with the Brits discovering who they will face in the opening round.
