Colin Beecher named Great Britain captain for United Cup 2024

• 1 MINUTE READ

Colin Beecher will lead the Great Britain team at the United Cup 2024 having been named captain for the mixed-team event starting on 29 December.

The United Cup is an international competition that will see the top nations in the world go head-to-head in Perth and Sydney, Australia, to kick-start the 2024 season.

Beecher – who is a National Coach at the LTA – brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role as captain, having previously supported Great Britain teams at the Junior Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as the Fed Cup) and Davis Cup, most notably as part of the 2015 team who lifted the title in Gent.

“It was an honour to be asked to be Captain for the United Cup team,” Beecher said. “I have worked, over the years, with the players in various capacities and we have built solid foundations, so looking forward to the team environment that we will generate.”

Great Britain are set to compete in the tournament for the second time, having reached the quarter-finals in 2022 – narrowly losing out to eventual champions USA.

This year the British team includes both the men’s and women’s singles No.1 ranked players – Cam Norrie and Katie Boulter – as well as Citi Open champion Dan Evans, Francesca Jones, Neal Skupski and Maia Lumsden.

The strong GB squad are set to take on Australia and USA in Group C in Perth.
