Dayana Yastremska (UKR)
The world No. 46 is through to her seventh WTA Tour final, and her first ever on grass as she bids to be the first Ukrainian player to lift a title in Nottingham.
Yastremska has had previous success on the British grass, having made the final of the Lexus Ilkley Open in 2018 as well as finishing runner-up at the 2016 Wimbledon girls' singles final.
Her win against Poland’s Magda Linette in today’s semi-final marks the third seed she has knocked out in straight sets in her bid for a fourth WTA Tour title. She eased past ninth seed Olga Danilovic in her opening match, and fifth seed and 2024 Lexus Eastbourne Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in the quarters.
After securing her spot in the final, the Ukrainian player reflected on the moment with a mix of excitement and humour:
"It's my first final since February, and first final on a grass court. I really love playing on grass, even though I think I have a bit of an allergy to grass.
“I'm very excited, and I was proud of myself. In general, everything worked pretty well. I can't wait to play in the finals tomorrow. Thank you for your support - I really enjoy playing here!".
McCartney Kessler (USA)
The American recorded her maiden WTA Tour main draw victory on grass last week at The HSBC Championships, defeating Brit Francesca Jones in round one and tomorrow she’ll bid for her first ever title on the surface.
Kessler’s dream run in Nottingham got off to a strong start when she took out the top seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opening round. The 25-year-old also put an end to Katie Boulter’s campaign for a third consecutive title at the event in yesterday's quarter-final.
Having grown in confidence throughout the week, the American – who’s sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 42 - looked at ease on the grass today. She took out world No. 38, Rebecca Sramkova 6-4, 6-2 in little under an hour and ten minutes in her semi-final and is looking forward to tomorrow's final.
"I think it (grass) suits my game pretty good, I'm serving well and playing some aggressive tennis.
"I've played her (Dayana Yastremska) a couple times. I know her game, she's a really aggressive player, really good on grass, but I'm excited for another final."
