Xu and Murgett impress again

• 2 MINUTE READ

Mimi Xu continued her rise through the junior rankings with an impressive showing at the J1 Junior ITF tournament in Mexico, while Finn Murgett enjoyed doubles success in Florida.

Mimi, who caught the headlines earlier this year when she bid to become the youngest qualifier at Wimbledon, reached the final of the event in Guadalajara - where she lost to American Kaitlin Quevedo. Despite that defeat, her impressive showing at the tournament saw her rise to 49 in the World junior rankings.

Finn won his first doubles men’s title at Boca Raton. He and doubles partner, fellow Brit, Blu Baker overcame the challenge of Younes Laaroussi and Brandon Perez, fighting back from a set down in a competitive match that finished 3-6 7-6(3) 10-8.

Tennis Wales Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “The results just keep on coming for Wales in what has been a successful year. To see Mimi ranked in the top 50 junior players in the world, and Finn winning his first professional title is testament to their hard work, and great news for Welsh tennis. Da iawn both.”
