• 5 minute read

Welsh tennis has enjoyed a truly historic year, with an incredible 62 national and international level tournaments featuring a Welsh player in the final. Across those events Welsh players won 33 titles and 11 different Welsh players reached singles finals in 2025.

This year also saw many landmark moments with the first Welsh player to compete in the Wimbledon singles main draw in 20 years, three Welsh players featuring at Wales’ biggest international tournament in nearly 30 years, and 4 Welsh players listed in either the ATP or WTA world rankings.

As Welsh tennis celebrates one of its most successful years to date, here’s everything you need to know about an unforgettable year.

It would be impossible to reflect on 2025 without highlighting the phenomenal achievements of Mimi Xu. The Swansea teenager has enjoyed a breakout season. Mimi’s grass court campaign turned heads, including a win over her first top-60 player Alycia Parks at Birmingham on her run to the quarter finals. These performances helped her to earn a main draw wildcard spot in Wimbledon, becoming the first Welsh player to do so in 20 years. Mimi gave an excellent account of herself on court 1 against British No.1 Emma Raducanu.

Making Welsh tennis history once clearly wasn’t enough. Mimi went on to complete the double at the Lexus Wrexham Open, claiming her highest level professional titles, with the bonus of it being on home soil. These successes, alongside other standout results, saw her climb to a career-high WTA world ranking of No. 234.

She will begin 2026 in style after being selected to represent Great Britain at the United Cup in Australia, competing alongside Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu.

Welsh men’s No.1 James Story has also enjoyed a superb year. His standout results include winning the singles title at the M25 Sheffield and the doubles at the M25 Glasgow. James also won his way into Wimbledon qualifying after progressing through the LTA Wildcard Play-Offs, another huge milestone in his career. Starting the year ranked 789 in the world, James climbed to a new career-high ATP ranking of No. 455, a great showing on the professional circuit.

James is joined in the ATP rankings by two more Welsh players who officially entered the professional circuit this year. Finn Murgett, who turned professional after competing in US college tennis, enjoyed a particularly strong year in doubles, winning five ITF doubles titles. Finn was selected for the British University team which won the Master’U BNP Paribas, GB’s first title since 2017. Viktor Frydrych also entered the ATP rankings after earning points on the ITF circuit. He claimed his first men’s ITF doubles title, a major milestone for the teenager.

Welsh tennis success extended beyond the professional men’s and women’s circuit with Megan Davies, representing Loughborough University, playing a key role in the team that went on to win the 2025 BUCS Women’s First Team title & Felix Bockelmann-Evans claimed the UTR Progress Tour title at Cardiff Met.

The next generation of Welsh talent made an impact across multiple age-groups.

  • The Wales U18 team won the Junior Four Nations title for the second year in a row. A great result for Elizabeth Evans, Awen Gwilym Davies, Gracie Hurley, Felix Bockelmann-Evans, Ollie Page, and Archie Gray.
  • Archie Gray, Ollie Page, and Niall Pickerd-Barua all claimed Junior ITF singles or doubles titles.
  • Ollie Page won two ITF junior singles titles and the men’s Lexus British Tour in Newport.
  • Evie Pritchard won multiple U12 Tennis Europe singles titles and captured the U12 Girls’ Doubles GB National Title in Nottingham.
  • Max Lendrum won U14 Tennis Europe singles and doubles titles and competed at the prestigious Les Petits As - Le Mondial Wilson, one of the world’s most elite U14 tournaments.
  • Fletcher Davies was selected to represent the Great Britain U11 squad and won the Doubles at the U11 Ligue Auvergine tournament.
  • Isabella Lieve-Morgan and Tomas O’Donnell won national level doubles titles.

This truly has been a landmark year for Welsh tennis.
