Roadshow Fund 2024

The Tennis Scotland Schools Roadshow fund is back for 2024

The fund provides tennis clubs in Scotland financial support towards the costs of delivering tennis taster sessions in schools and improving school-to-club links. In 2023, Tennis Scotland supported over 20 tennis clubs, allowing club coaches to deliver tennis to thousands of children across the country.

The funding is intended to support tennis clubs in the delivery of 1 – 2 weeks of intensive taster sessions, at a cluster of local primary schools. The sessions should inspire large groups, through delivery of fun and engaging tennis-based activities. We recommend that individual school classes benefit from a one-hour taster session, to maximise the fund across a wide range of age groups and local school areas.

For many children, school tasters sessions are their first experience of tennis, so applications for funding must indicate plans for a follow-on offer that directly leads to a tennis club’s venue-based Open Day or ‘LTA Youth Start’ programme.

To help reduce barriers to participation, particularly for underrepresented groups, Open Days should also promote an enticing promotional offer, which enables new players to continue their tennis journey in a welcoming club environment.

Minimum criteria to access the fund:

  • Venues must be LTA registered.
  • Delivery coaches are required to be LTA accredited and qualified to at least Level 2 (LTA Instructor) or above.
  • Applications should either match the TS investment towards the running of sessions or demonstrate a ‘benefit-in-kind’ (i.e. a coach contributing their own personal time).
  • All taster sessions should feed into an LTA Youth Start programme or club Open Day – both must be set up on ClubSpark with online booking.
  • If a non-ClubSpark mechanism is used for follow-up coaching or memberships, insight must be provided regarding transference.
  • This fund should be accessed as a partnership between a club coaching team and club committee, with a maximum award of £250 available.

Measures of success include:

  • Number of children and families attending an Open Day / signing up for an LTA Youth Start programme.
  • Number of children and families joining the club, joining a coaching programme, or booking pay to play tennis courts.
