Course Details

The National Student Tennis Pathways Conference is free to attend and provides a platform for college and university staff and students to explore the wide range of careers available within the tennis and the wider sports industry. The conference will see leaders within the sporting industry discuss the current status of national sport and how pivotal the next few years will be in shaping sport for years to come. In turn, the conference will give attendees the opportunity to explore the wide range of careers available in the field and how attendees can play an important role in shaping the future of sport.

The conference will include several interactive workshops from leaders in the tennis and wider sports industry, and how they have developed their roles and businesses around the current status and requirements of the sports industry, adapting to the changing status of sport. There will also be a focus on how attendees can utilise their personal skills and current work experience when applying for jobs in the industry. Workshops include;

Top Tips for CV's and Interviews
Paul Regan, Paul Regan Organisation 
This session will provide attendees with the opportunity to identify the relevant knowledge, skills and experience that employers are looking for. Kate will give advice as to how attendees can identify their own unique selling point to help secure their future.

Career Pathways: Your Story
Anna Fitzpatrick & Nathan Rooney, Beyond the Baseline Mentors 
This session provides attendees with the opportunity to hear from two Beyond the Baseline mentors, their experiences both as professional tennis players / coaches and the career pathways they have chosen afterwards.

From Tennis Leader to Tennis Manager: My Journey in Tennis 
Toby Bawden, University of Essex 

This session provides an insight into how to develop a project role, into a sustainable management role by creating a reflective workforce and linking with local partners / clubs to provide paid employment and work opportunities.

21st Century Programmes 
George Wood, Energy Bubble 

George will look to use his experience of working with Badminton England and England Hockey to design 21st Century participation programmes such as No Stings Badminton, and provide tips to take back to your programmes in colleges / universities. In addition, there will be key elements that employers will be looking for if you are to work in a participation role

Management Opportunities in Tennis 
Paul Hatton, Coach Education, Tutor and Area Programmes Manager, Inspire2Coach
Inspire2coach is one of the largest tennis providers in the UK, offering Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 qualifications, mentoring and apprenticeship programmes to help train and develop coaches. In this presentation, you will hear about how inspire2coach trains and develops its team of coaching assistants, coaches and administrators to grow and future-proof the business.

Game, Set, (Career) Match: Understanding Sports Marketing and how it can give you the advantage in tennis
Becky Stuart, Ear to the Ground 

Ear To The Ground are a highly successful marketing agency company, who have been heavily involved in the LTA Youth Strategy. This workshop will give you an understanding of the projects they have been involved in, top marketing tips for your programmes and the skills employers will be looking for in marketing. 

Please note that the deadline to book onto the conference is 5pm, Thursday 23rd March 2017 and forms part of the Student Tennis Conference weekend, with the Matchplay Sports Science Conference taking place on Sunday 2nd April and also now available to book online.
