Lead Tennis Coach in Leeds Parks
£16.50–£26.25 PER HOUR | 9–18 HOURS PER WEEK
Start date: March 2027
Initial season: March to mid-September 2027
Essential requirement: Access to a car
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a passionate tennis coach looking for rewarding work, competitive pay and opportunities to develop your career? Join Leeds Parks Tennis and help bring tennis to more people across the city!
We're recruiting Level 2+ coaches to deliver engaging tennis sessions across Leeds, while also welcoming Level 1 coaches looking to progress through our coaching bursary and mentoring scheme.
Working across 26 free-to-book park tennis sites, you'll coach players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. From established tennis venues such as Roundhay Park, with its 16 courts, to communities where access to sport is more limited, this is a varied role where no two days are the same.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Competitive pay: £16.50–£26.25 per hour, depending on the venue and role.
• Flexible hours: Opportunities to work 9–18 hours per week, with hours discussed around your other commitments.
• Your own free coaching equipment: Equipment provided for you to use when delivering sessions across Leeds.
• Free court hire for private lessons: Deliver private lessons at approved Leeds Parks venues without paying court-hire fees.
• Grow your own coaching business: The opportunity to promote your private lesson offering through a network of over 15,000 contacts and leads.
• Career development: Access to mentoring from Level 4 Coach Coordinator Danny Burrell and bursaries to help fund your next coaching qualification.
• Varied experience: Deliver group lessons, community sessions, open days, summer camps and school activities.
MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE THROUGH TENNIS
We work with charities, community committees and local partners to make tennis accessible to people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play.
Some sessions are free or discounted for participants, with equipment provided at no cost. You'll still receive your usual coaching pay for delivering these sessions.
You'll help more people discover tennis, develop their confidence and enjoy being active, while gaining valuable experience across a wide range of communities.
DEVELOP YOUR COACHING CAREER
Our bursary and mentoring scheme helps coaches achieve their next qualification without having to fund the full course cost upfront.
For example:
• Level 1 to Level 2: We can fund £625 towards your course fees, repaid through 45 hours of programme delivery at approximately £13.89 per hour.
• Level 2 to Level 3: We can fund £950 towards your course fees, repaid through 60 hours of programme delivery at approximately £15.83 per hour.
The final repayment can be adjusted to ensure the total matches the course fee exactly. The bursary repayment arrangement will be agreed with you in advance.
You'll also benefit from mentoring and practical experience to help you develop your confidence and coaching skills. Since the start of 2022, five coaches have achieved their next qualification with the support of Tennis Coordinator Danny.
Level 1 coaches are encouraged to apply and explore this pathway. Until qualified and authorised to lead sessions independently, they'll work in an assistant role with the required supervision.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We're looking for reliable, enthusiastic coaches who enjoy working with people and want to help grow tennis across Leeds.
You'll need a positive attitude, good communication skills and a commitment to delivering inclusive, engaging sessions. Access to a car is essential, as you'll travel between venues across the city.
Level 2+ coaches can take on coaching opportunities, subject to the relevant requirements. Level 1 coaches with the ambition to progress can benefit from our bursary and mentoring scheme.
