Emma Raducanu has become the new British No.1, having reclaimed the position for the first time since June 2023.
This is the second time Raducanu has held the top spot in the British rankings, with her first stint coming off the back of her historic run to the 2021 US Open title. She held the position between September 2021 to June 2023.
Raducanu overtakes Katie Boulter, who held the British No.1 position for almost two years following her run to a first WTA title at the Lexus Nottingham Open in 2023.
Speaking of achieving the British No.1 title for the second time in her career, Raducanu said, “It’s nice, but I wouldn’t say it’s the most important thing for me.
“Having Katie (Boulter) in front, it was nice for me to have something to chase. Now I’m sure she’s going to enjoy that with me. The grass season is still young, and so is the rest of the season."
The former US Open champion has managed to find her form this season, producing some standout results that has seen her climb back inside the world’s top 40 to a ranking of world No.36.
Among the highlights, she reached her first WTA 1000 quarter-final at the Miami Open having defeated world No.9 Emma Navarro and Qatar Open champion Amanda Anisimova and made the third round at the Italian Open and Australian Open.
She's also made a fast start to the grass court season, where she strung together a run to the quarter-finals of the HSBC Championships at The Queen's Club where she beat Cristina Bucsa and Rebecca Sramkova before losing out to world No.7 Qinwen Zheng.
The Brit now turns her attention to the remainder of the grass court season where she is set to compete at the Lexus Eastbourne Open in the lead up to Wimbledon.
