Dates announced for Trophy Series & new Performance Competition Calendar events

• 4 MINUTE READ

Dates have been confirmed for the 2022 grass court Trophy Series events at Surbiton and Ilkley alongside five further ITF World Tennis Tour (WTT) $25k events for both women and men in July and August.

We have today unveiled the latest update to its Performance Competitions Calendar which is designed to provide significantly enhanced opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the player pathway.

As part of this update, dates for the grass court Trophy Series ATP 125 Challenger and ITF WTT $100K events have also been confirmed today. Alongside the Trophy Series and five ITF WTT events, we have also announced a new British Tour Premier event and ITF Junior events dates up until the end of August.

Grass court Trophy Series

After a hiatus for two years due to the pandemic, the British grass court season will once again begin at Surbiton which will host the Surbiton Trophy for both men and women in the week commencing 30 May.

Then in the week commencing 13 June men’s and women’s events will return to the courts of West Yorkshire for the Ilkley Trophy.

Following the COVID pandemic it has been decided that the existing Manchester Trophy event will come to an end at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club.

The limitations of the existing site make it difficult to grow the event or host combined male and female events in the future. However, we are currently supporting the Northern Tennis Club with redevelopment plans that will allow it to focus on expanding its core activities across the whole year and deliver other commercial opportunities to help support its important role in the local community. We remain committed to bringing other major events to Manchester and the North West, such as the Davis Cup, announced last week.

More ITF events on home soil

Meanwhile, we have also been focusing on the calendar across the whole year, with the announcement of a new ITF WTT Women’s $100k event in October and the provision ITF WTT $25k events, that have seen such significant rankings gains for British players over the early months of this year.

Six of the eight ITF WTT $25k singles events to be played in this country have resulted in British wins, with three of these boasting an all-British final. Five of the doubles events have also featured British winners.

Shrewsbury will play host to a women’s only $100k event, which will be a significant opportunity for an emerging group of British women to compete at home outside the grass court season.

Building on this success, the dates for five further ITF WTT $25k events in July and August have also been confirmed today. The men will extend the grass court season to give them more playing opportunities on this surface whilst the women will return to hard courts.

In the three weeks immediately after The Championships there will be three grass court events for male players with a week at Roehampton and two weeks at Nottingham. At the same time there will be three women’s events on hard courts at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton, Nottingham and Foxhills.

Then in the week’s commencing 15 and 22 August there will be combined men’s and women’s events on hard courts at Aldershot and the NTC respectively.
