British star Oliver Bonding and American Jagger Leach staged an incredible comeback on Court 12 against Dutch duo Mees Rottgering and Hidde Schoenmakers to reach the Wimbledon boys’ doubles final.
Eighth seeds Bonding and Leach saved match point to beat the Dutch pair 4-6, 7-6(6), 11-9 to clinch a place in their first Grand Slam final.
Rottgering and Schoenmakers had the chance to serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set and led 8-4 in the deciding match tie-break but the British, American team showed their resilience to come through on their first match point.
This is the third match in a row that Bonding and Leach have won in the deciding match tie-break.
In the final they will play fourth seeds Oskari Paldanius of Finland and Alan Wazny of Poland.
Bonding becomes the first British player to make the boys’ doubles final since George Morgan and Oliver Goulding faced off in 2011.
His partner, Leach, is the current junior world No.7 and is the son of three-time singles Grand Slam champion and former world No.1 Lindsay Davenport
Previous champions of the boys’ doubles event include Roger Federer, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios, Liam Broady and Jiri Lehecka.
Who is Oliver Bonding?
Surrey’s Bonding has been regarded as one of the most promising young players in British tennis over the last few years with some standout results both in the junior and professional game.
Bonding is the reigning 18U Lexus Junior National Championships title-winner – taking home the trophy in 2024 and 2025 – and has previously won the Banana Bowl, one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the international calendar.
The Briton has also made the semi-finals of the doubles in both junior Australian Open and Roland Garros this year – going one better at Wimbledon in reaching Saturday’s final.
Recently, Bonding became the fourth British player to win the boys’ singles title at the Lexus British Open Roehampton – the biggest junior grass court event outside of Wimbledon, with past champions including Coco Gauff, Gael Monfils, Joao Fonseca and Caroline Wozniacki.
Earlier in the year, the 18-year-old won his first professional singles title at the M15 Lannion on the French hard courts.
Bonding is supported by the LTA Pro Transition Programme – providing a range of support options to 16-22 year-old players to facilitate a full-time coaching programme, optimise their competition programme, and development of physical readiness for tour level tennis.
