Roland Garros 2027 will take place between Monday 17 May and Sunday 6 June 2027.

Qualifying runs from 17–21 May, with the main draw starting on Sunday 23 May and finishing with the finals on 5–6 June.

Roland Garros tickets are released in phases: entry to the official ballot typically opens in December, followed by general sale for the first week and second week outside courts in late March.

Roland Garros is played on the clay courts of Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Within Paris, Stade Roland Garros is situated in the western side of the city, within Bois de Boulogne.

Emile Lesueur, president of the Stade Français during the early 20th century, named it after his former classmate. Roland Garros was a pilot in the First World War and considered a hero by many. Lesueur saw it fitting to name the tennis stadium after Garros – a man appraised for his honour, courage and pioneering-attitude.

Roland Garros began in 1891, which means that by the time the 2027 tournament gets underway, it will have been running for 136 years. 

It started life as the Championnat de France, open only to members of French tennis clubs, and wasn't opened up to international players until 1925.

In 1928, it moved to its current home, the purpose-built Stade Roland-Garros, after France needed a stadium to defend the Davis Cup they'd won for the first time the year before.

The tournament became one of tennis's four Grand Slams that same year, and has been part of the Open Era - open to both amateur and professional players - since 1968.  

Roland Garros is played on clay, often referred to as the 'red clay' or the 'red dirt'. This clay is comprised of red brick dust, crushed white limestone, clinker (coal residue), crushed gravel and drain.

At Roland Garros 2026, Cam Norrie, Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, and more all played the main draw, while Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid represented Great Britain in the wheelchair events.

There are currently three ways players can qualify to compete in the Roland Garros event: 

1. Rank within the cut off of the top 104 players who sign up for the Grand Slam 
2. Win three rounds in the qualifying matches  
3. Receive a wild card 

The 2026 Roland Garros prize pot totalled €61.7 million (£53.7 million). The total prize money for 2027 is yet to be confirmed by the FFT.
