Semi-final previews
Jack Draper (GBR) vs Jiri Lehecka (CZE)
Britain’s Draper has earned a key jump in the rankings which will ensure a vital fourth seed position at Wimbledon, following his three-set quarterfinal victory over the American Brandon Nakashima.
Progressing to a career-first semi-final at Queen’s, the British No.1 faced challenges in the second set, with Nakashima dominant on serve. Draper was unable to force a break point in the set but improved his form in the decider, winning a tight 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 match.
Draper’s popularity was palpable amongst the Panama-hat-clad home crowd, their energy not depleted by the scorching heat at the Queen’s Club.
Asked about his relationship with the HSBC Championships, Draper replied, “It’s always been a tournament that I have watched alongside with Wimbledon… So to be in the semis, that obviously means a lot.” He added that the top four seeding which he will now receive at Wimbledon will be “a definite huge step for me”.
He will return to his career-high ranking of world No.4 on Monday.
Draper goes into the semi-final with a 2-1 head-to-head against Czechia’s Lehecka, who squashed home fans’ hopes of an all-British clash in the semis with his decisive win over British No.2 Jacob Fearnley earlier in the day.
The 23-year-old Czech is ranked No.30 in the world and achieved his 100th ATP match win today, proving the stronger player with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the Brit, who faded in the sun after playing two gruelling matches the day before.
Today's match against the Brit will mark the world No.30's 10th career ATP semi-final.
Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) vs Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP)
Following an incredible performance to win a second Roland Garros title earlier this month, world No.2 Alcaraz has won his ninth quarter-final of 2025, a number unrivalled by the rest of the tour.
His 7-5, 6-4 defeat of France’s Arthur Rinderknech also extends his current winning streak to a career-best 16 consecutive matches.
The 2023 Queen’s champion claimed a confident victory over the French player to progress to the semi-finals, not facing a break point in the match. It made a welcome contrast to his laborious second round match against countryman Jaume Munar, which exceeded three hours.
However, the 22-year-old Spaniard was positive about his physical state, asserting that he's, “feeling great, honestly”, and adding that, “I have a really great team around me that help me a lot to be ready for today”.
Alcaraz will enter into another all-Spanish contest on Saturday against 37-year-old Bautista Agut, currently ranked 51 in the world.
Alcaraz has a dominant 2-0 head-to-head against Bautista Agut, who is 15 years his senior. The lower-ranked Spaniard will be the underdog of this semi-final, though he has achieved a career-high ranking of world No.9 in the past.
Bautista Agut comes into the semi-final having faced jeopardy in his previous matches, saving match point in his opening round and surviving a three-set battle against the Dane Holger Rune in the quarter-finals.
His victory over Rune marks his first top-10 win since October 2024, which could provide momentum for a possible upset against Alcaraz in a thrilling inter-generational tussle.
This match will mark Bautista Agut’s 47th semi-final on tour.
