Quorn Family Tennis Cup

The Quorn™ Family Tennis Cup provides families with the opportunity to play tennis in an informal, fun competition run by their local venue, while also encouraging families to play tennis more often and to eat healthy food to complement an active lifestyle.

Red Ball

Between 19 March and 22 May 2016, venues are encouraged to run a Quorn Family Tennis Cup Red Ball competition. The red ball competition usually lasts approximately 2 hours (dependent on number of pairs taking part). 

The winners of each red ball competition will earn the opportunity of a day out at a Quorn Family Tennis Cup event held on the qualifying weekend of a LTA grass court major event in May or June.

Each pair will have the chance to play against other winners on the day as well as watch the professional players in action.

Who can play in the 2016 red ball event?

Any child born 1 September 2005 or later (10U) playing with an adult family member* born 31 August 1997 or earlier (18+)

* adult family member - parent, carer, guardian, step parent, co-parent, uncle, auntie, sibling or grandparent.

Are there any minimum requirements?

There is no minimum requirement in terms of the size of the venue and number of pairs who take part. Anybody from your venue may run the competition (e.g. coach, junior organiser or engaged parents). Each venue will be sent an organiser guide and pack which will contain full information on how to run the competition, The key requirement of each venue is access to mini tennis equipment (i.e. mini tennis nets, red balls and 21' or 23' rackets)

Sign Up / Organiser Packs

The deadline date to sign up for the Red Ball event was 26 April 2016. Sign up has now closed for 2016. 

Competition packs will be sent to the venues who have signed up which includes resources and prizes to help you run your competition. The competition packs will be sent out at staggered dates depending on when your venue completed the sign up form. Please see below for dates for when you should expect to receive the organiser pack:

 Submitting Results

Please email familytenniscup@LTA.org.uk to let the organisers know the winners and runners up of your Red Ball competition. All winners confirmed by 24 May 2016 will be invited to an LTA Staged Grass Court event in May or June (e.g. Aegon Open Nottingham). In exceptional circumstances runners-up may also be invited by the organisers.

The deadline to submit results is Tuesday 24 May 2016.

Yellow Ball

During July and August around 80 local venues and summer open tournaments will be hosting a Quorn Family Tennis Cup yellow ball event. 

The yellow ball event lasts 1 day although tournaments can be run over 2 days if required. Each event is played in a round robin and/or elimination draw format. The standard match format is an 8 game doubles pro-set with a tie-break at 8 games all. Deciding point (receivers choice) is played at deuce in each game.

Each tournament or venue hosting a yellow ball event will be sent a competition pack including prizes and resources on or before 1 July 2016. 

Who can play in the 2016 yellow ball event?

A junior player born 1 September 1997 to 31 August 2005 (18U) playing with an adult family member* born 31 August 1997 or earlier. Pairs can be the same or mixed gender.

* adult family member - parent, carer, guardian, step parent, co-parent, uncle, auntie, sibling or grandparent.

Yellow ball event format

Summer Qualifying Tournaments – Held in July or August. The winners of each tournament qualify for Regional Finals.

Regional Finals (Sunday 25 September 2016) – One day, indoor event. The winners and runners-up from each Regional final qualify for National Finals

National Finals (Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 October 2016) – 16 pairs will play over two days at the National Finals
