Emma Raducanu and Petra Kvitova added to line-up for Rothesay Summer Series
British No.1 and 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu is the first name to be added to the line-up for the Rothesay Classic Birmingham, while reigning champions Petra Kvitova confirmed her place at the Rothesay International Eastbourne,
The announcement comes as tickets go on general sale for the Rothesay Summer Series events this summer: Rothesay Open Nottingham, Rothesay Classic Birmingham and Rothesay International Eastbourne.
Raducanu will head to the Edgbaston Priory Club from the 17-25 June for the first time in her career as she aims to add her name to the long list of famous champions, including Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova and Ashleigh Barty.
Raducanu made history in 2021 as she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title and first British woman to lift a major trophy in 44 years at the US Open.
That year she also made a name for herself during the grass court season, reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon with her first top 50 victories of her career.
Since, the 20-year-old reached the WTA semi-final at the Hana Bank Korea Open, as well as quarter-finals in Transylvania, Stuttgart and Washington.
2022 Rothesay International Eastbourne champion Kvitova will return to Devonshire Park to defend her title from 25 June – 1 July.
The former world No.2 won her first title in Eastbourne last year having overcome the 2021 champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2.
“I’m really excited to be heading back to the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, winning there last year was one of the most special titles of my career,” said Kvitova.
“I always really enjoy playing the grass court events in Britain and look forward to returning again this summer.”
The 33-year-old has enjoyed plenty of success across the British grass court season in the past. She’s a two-time Wimbledon champion, lifting the women’s singles trophy in 2011 and 2015, as well as a back-to-back winner in Birmingham from 2016 to 2017.
The Czech star boasts a wide range of accolades across her 29 career titles, including the WTA Finals and three WTA 1000 Madrid trophies, in addition to six Billie Jean King Cup triumphs.
Kvitova joins current world No.4 and two-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur in the line-up for this years event in Eastbourne, with plenty more names still to be added over the coming months.
