Wales U18s Crowned Junior Four Nations Champions in Nottingham

• 5 MINUTE READ

Team Wales enjoyed a great weekend at the Junior Four Nations 2025, where the U18 team successfully defended their title, lifting the trophy once again after three days of intense competition.

The annual event hosted this year by England at Nottingham Tennis Centre, brought together some of the best junior players from across England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in the U12, U14, and U18 categories. The standard was very high, with many players competing at national and international level.

Overall, Wales finished joint third with 7 points, just one point behind England and Ireland, who shared top spot with 8 points each. Scotland also ended on 7 points in what proved to be one of the closest Junior Four Nations competitions ever.

Wales opened their campaign on Friday against Scotland, the U12s were edged out 2-4, while the U14s drew on matches but narrowly lost on sets. The U18s, however, turned the tables, drawing on matches but claiming victory on sets.

Saturday brought a tough test against Ireland, who looked much stronger than their fourth-place finish in 2024. The U12s again fell 2-4, the U14s were defeated 1-5, but the U18s produced a superb 4-2 win to keep their title defence alive.

On Sunday, the weekend culminated in a showdown with hosts England. The U12s dug deep to secure a draw that they converted into victory on sets, the U14s went down 1-5, but the U18s delivered their best performance of the tournament with a dominant 5-1 victory, a result that crowned them champions for the second consecutive year.

The standout moment of the weekend came from the U18s, who once again proved their class with victories against Scotland, Ireland, and England to retain the Four Nations crown.

Callum Findlay, U18 Captain and National Performance & University Head Coach for Tennis Wales:

“It’s great to see the players come together and embrace the team environment to represent their country. The hard work they bring day in day out is helping them to achieve strong results on court."

Elizabeth Evans, five-time Junior Four Nations player and 2024 Tennis Wales Junior Player of the Year:

“The Four Nations is the event I look forward to the most every year. It’s one of the only tournaments where you’re playing for more than yourself. It’s been a privilege to be selected for my fifth and final year, and I’m proud to have made it count one last time.”

Tomas O’Donnell, making his Junior Four Nations debut in the U12s:

“It’s been an honour to represent my country in such an amazing event. It’s been a great opportunity to watch and learn from the older players who’ve played in this tournament before.”

Beyond the courts, the weekend was also a valuable learning experience. Older players mentored and supported the younger age groups, highlighting the unique team spirit of the Junior Four Nations one of the few times in tennis where athletes compete side by side for their country.

Congratulations to all players, coaches, and families involved. Team Wales was brilliantly represented, and the future of Welsh tennis looks brighter than ever.

We can’t wait to do it all again in 2026!
