Mimi Xu Impresses Despite Wimbledon Defeat

Mimi Xu was in Wimbledon qualification action as she bid to become the youngest player in the professional era to qualify for the famous tournament.

The 14-year-old from Swansea needed to win three qualifying matches to book her place at Wimbledon. Her first qualifier was against Hanna Chang of the USA. Unfortunately, she lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, ending her hopes for this year, but impressing along the way.

Tennis Wales CEO Simon Johnson said: “All of us here in Wales are extremely proud of Mimi. Competing in the Wimbledon qualifying event will have been a great experience and we know Mimi is an immense talent. It will be great to see Mimi back on court this summer.”
