Alex wins doubles title in Romania

Wales’ Alex Farmanbar lifted the under-16s boys’ doubles title at the Metropolitan Life Cup in Romania.

Alex and partner Szymon Piotr Podczaszy overcame the challenge of the pairing of Patrick-Valentin Moise of Germany, and Jorge Vanine of Portugal to secure the silverware. A competitive match saw Alex and Szymon take the first set 6-2, before their opponents levelled terms with a 6-3 success in the second set. A nail-biting final set went to a tie-break, Alex and Szymon winning through 10-8. Tennis Wales’ Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “Llongyfarchiadau Alex for a great title win. Throughout the tournament Alex and Szymon had to show great resilience with tough matches in every round. They came through it to be crowned champions.” |
