Scots reach finals in France, while TS Open Tour visits Pitlochry & junior champions crowned

• 3 MINUTE READ

Hamish Stewart and James MacKinlay both reached finals at the ITF World Tennis Tour event in Plaisir, France.

Stewart went into the singles as third seed and enjoyed a smooth passage to the final, winning each of his rounds in straight sets.

In the decider, he came up against second seed Mats Rosenkranz and it was the German who proved just too strong on the day, winning 6-3, 6-3 to collect the title.

MacKinlay was in doubles action alongside Finn Bass, with the pair entering the draw as second seeds. They won their first two rounds in straight sets, before coming through a nail-biting match-tie break in the semis to beat Liam Hignett and James Story 5-7, 6-4, 11-9.

They won the first set in the final against French duo Axel Garcian and Yanis Ghazouani Durand, but this time were on the wrong side of a match tie-break as they lost 6-3, 5-7, 5-10.

Chadalawada & Rosenzweig win on TS Open Tour

On the Tennis Scotland Open Tour, it was time for the Highland Tennis Championships – the oldest-running tennis tournament in Scotland, having first been held in 1896.

Aadya Iyer Chadalawada and Nicolas Rosenzweig were the women’s and men’s champions respectively following a hard-fought week of tennis at the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry.

Chadalawada reached the final with straight-sets wins over Elodie Dick and Heather Barlow and started against Halle Pringle in style, taking the opening set 6-1. But Pringle fought back to take the second 6-0 before Chadalawada edged the decisive tie-break 10-7.

In the men’s competition, Rosenzweig was in fine form throughout his run to the final, dropping just five games in three matches, culminating with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kyle McKay.
