Gordon Reid completed the perfect preparation for Wimbledon by winning the men’s doubles alongside Alfie Hewett at the Lexus British Open Roehampton.
The 23-time Grand Slam champions raced through the final against Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands, sealing the title with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
It was a dominant performance on the grass by Reid and Hewett as they lifted their fourth British Open title since 2015.
Reid said: “We’re very happy with the performance today and happy with the result. Those guys (De la Puente and Spaargaren) are a dangerous team so we had to play well, and I think we did that today.
“It’s great preparation for all of us to be here on these courts this week, so big thanks to Kirsty (Thomson, LTA Tournament Director) and the team for a great event.”
Lumsden makes more Monastir memories
Ewen Lumsden’s love affair with Monastir continued as he picked up a sixth career ITF World Tennis Tour title – all won in the same Egyptian city.
The TS Open Tour men’s champion teamed up with Isaac Nortey from Ghana as the pair did justice to their top seeding at the M15 event.
After a battle in the opening round which saw the pair require a match tie-break to prevail, Lumsden and Nortey reached the final without dropping another set.
They had to go the distance in the decider, however, to beat fourth seeds Riccardo Perin and Luca Potenza 6-1, 1-6, 10-2 and get their hands on the trophy.
McKay & Chadalawada win on TS Open Tour
Kyle McKay and Aadya Iyer Chadalawada took the titles as the TS Open Tour continued with the Kerr Stirling Bridge of Allan Central Open.
McKay beat Nicolas Rosenzweig 6-4, 6-3 in the final to complete a flawless campaign, while Chadalawada did likewise as she beat Kirsty Robertson 6-2, 6-4.
Vital points on the Leaderboard are up for grabs over the next couple of weeks as the Scottish Grass Court Championships and the Ayrshire Open take place.
