Reid secures biggest singles title since 2018 & Thomson makes it four in a row

• 3 MINUTE READ

Gordon Reid, Connor Thomson and Ewen Lumsden picked up pro titles during another stellar week on tour for Scottish players.

For wheelchair legend Reid, it was a biggest singles title since 2018 as he lifted the ITF Enrique Esteire Open trophy at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain.

Entering as second seed, the Scot blitzed through the first two rounds, beating Guilhem Laget 6-1, 6-1 before enjoying a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zhenxu Ji to set up a final with top seed Gustavo Fernandez.

Reid fought hard over the first two sets, dropping the opener on a tie-break before fighting back to level the tie 7-5. At the changeover, Fernandez signalled an injury and was forced to retire, handing the title to Reid.

“Thanks to all the team for all your hard work, Reid wrote on Instagram. “Let’s keep building.”

Thomson makes it four in a row

Connor Thomson, meanwhile, continued his remarkable run on the ITF World Tennis Tour, picking up his fourth consecutive doubles title.

Thomson teamed up with Lui Maxted in Monastir, Tunisia, for a fantastic run to the M25 trophy which saw the pair win eight out of eight sets, securing the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sergey Betov and Daniil Ostapenkov.

The pair will remain in Tunisia for another event in Monastir this week.

Lumsden bags doubles title in Tunisia

Ewen Lumsden was also magnificent in Monastir as he won a third doubles of the year in the M15 event.

Teaming up with Isaac Nortey, the duo enjoyed a straightforward run to the final without dropping a set. But the pair had to fight hard in the decider after being pegged back to one set all to force a match tie-break.

Lumsden and Nortey rose to the challenge, taking it 10-7 to get their hands on the trophy.
