Moore & Barlow win East Open, while Lumsden reaches finals in Tunisia

• 3 MINUTE READ

Ewan Moore and Heather Barlow picked up the titles as the Tennis Scotland Open Tour travelled to Edinburgh.

With the LMP Group East of Scotland Open being live-streamed, Moore and Barlow found their best form in front of the cameras as they produced convincing performances at Craiglockhart Tennis Centre.

For both champions, it was a second TS Open Tour title of the season, adding to their wins at the Whitecraigs Easter Championships in April.

In the men’s event, top seed Moore started strongly with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Chenming Dong before beating Findlay Pratt 6-3, 6-1 in the quarter-finals and easing into the final with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Liam O’Brien.

Third seed Finlay Watters was his opponent in the decider after edging out Callum McGinn 10-6 in a match tie-break, but it was Moore who got his hands on the trophy after a 6-3, 6-2 triumph.

Second seed Barlow, meanwhile, took the women’s title without dropping a set, enjoying decisive victories over Lea Khochfar 6-1, 6-2, Anna McBride 6-2, 6-0 and Aadya Iyer Chadalawada 6-0, 7-6 to reach the final.

She faced Hanna Augustynska in the final after she beat Anna McKnight 6-4, 6-1 in the last four, and clinched the title with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory.

In total, the East of Scotland Open hosted 30 events over 10 days in its first running since winning the Tennis Scotland Competition of the Year Award for 2024.

Singles & doubles finals for Lumsden

Ewen Lumsden reached the finals of both singles and doubles as the ITF World Tennis Tour travelled to Monastir in Tunisia.

Sixth seed Lumsden was in good form, making the singles semi-finals without dropping a set before overcoming a tough battle against Gilbert Klier Junior from Brazil 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 to reach the title decider.

The Scot, though, had to settle for second place after going down 1-6, 3-6 to his Turkish opponent Tuncay Duran.

In the doubles, Lumsden and his partner Alex Knaff from Luxembourg battled their way through two match tie-breaks to reach the semi-finals, where they enjoyed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Duran and Alp Horoz.

However, they were forced to withdraw from the final, handing the title to Klier Junior and Igor Marcondes.

Norrie reaches semis at Geneva Open

Cam Norrie was in good form ahead of Roland Garros as he reached the semi-finals of the Geneva Open, an ATP 250 event.

Norrie beat Dominic Stricker in the first round, then reached the quarters after Tomas Machac retired with the pair locked at one set apiece.

The Scot then enjoyed an impressive win over world number 25 Alexei Popyrin in the last eight, setting up a tie with Novak Djokovic, who was hunting his 100th career title.

Norrie produced some top tennis, saving match point before claiming the second set on a tie-break, but Djokovic proved too strong in the end, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.

Wins for Reid ahead of Roland Garros

Gordon Reid was in singles action at the Barcelona Open as he warmed up for Roland Garros.

The Scot battled through three-setters in the first two rounds to reach the semi-finals, where he was beaten by the top seed Martin De la Puente.

Gordon and regular partner Alfie Hewett were forced to withdraw from doubles ahead of their French Open title defence.

Cameron Rae wins junior title in France

Congratulations to Cameron Rae and Fraser Newcombe who were selected to compete at a Tennis Europe event in France.

Both reached the final of the 12U boys' doubles event, with Cameron and partner Tomas Gabor winning the title.
