Malesevic and Britton win Scottish Indoor Open Championships

• 2 minute read

Nemanja Malesevic and Daniella Britton were crowned national champions after a dramatic weekend at the Scottish Indoor Open Championships.

The biggest Tennis Scotland Open Tour event of the year so far took place at the University of Stirling with strong 32-player fields in both the men’s and women’s events, which were also part of the Lexus British Tour.

Stirling student Malesevic justified his position as top seed as he came out on top in the men’s competition, having got his campaign underway with straight-sets wins over Nathan Mansfield and Kyle McKay.

The Sunday morning semis saw Malesevic locked in a tough battle against fellow Stirling scholar Liam Hignett, with the pair trading blows across two tight sets before the eventual champion won through in a match tie-break 7-6, 5-7, 10-3.

Cameron Fryer was his opponent in the final after he came through the draw without dropping a set, but Malesevic got his hands on the title following a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

In the women’s event, sixth-seed Britton was in fantastic form, cruising through the first two rounds with the loss of just two games, before edging past Halle Pringle 6-2, 7-5 in a hard-fought quarter-final.

It was top seed Tegan Bush who awaited Britton in the semis, but the eventual champion proved too strong, coming through 6-1, 6-1.

TS Open Tour regular Teodora Prisadnikova was waiting in the final after her opponent retired following the first set in the last four. Earlier, seventh seed Prisadnikova had won an epic quarter-final battle with Amelie Brooks 6-1, 6-7, 11-9.

Britton was too strong in the decider, picking up her first title on the TS Open Tour with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
