Merchiston Castle defended their boys’ title while Mearns Castle claimed victory in the girls’ event at the Scottish Schools Team Championship 2025.
A total of 23 schools from across Scotland took part in a fantastic, action-packed two-day event at The Glasgow Academy. Each match consisted of two doubles rubbers with a 10-point ‘shootout’ to split the teams if required.
In the girls’ competition, three schools from East Renfrewshire reached the semi-finals, with St Ninians seeing off Williamwood and Mearns Castle coming through over Mary Erskine.
And it was Mearns Castle who proved too strong in the final, wrapping up a 2-0 win over their local rivals to get their hands on the trophy.
Mearns Castle player Anna said: “It’s been a great day and amazing to win for the school and ourselves. We all get on so well and it means so much to us all and the school – we’re so proud.”
The following day saw the boys take to the court for yet more fun-filled and dramatic tennis action, with the semi-finals seeing Merchiston Castle and Strathallan win through to the final, where it was the holders who came out on top.
Merchiston Castle player Oscar said: “It’s a very happy moment for us. We knew it would be tough, so it was great to get the win and take the trophy home. We had a few close matches but played some good points in the big moments.”
