Head Coach @ Ashbourne Tennis Club , Derbyshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and ambitious Head Coach to lead, develop and grow the coaching programme at our friendly, four-court community club. This is a self-employed role where you will manage your own coaching business, build on an established programme and work closely with our volunteer committee to keep the club active, welcoming and thriving for everyone.
This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial coach to inherit an existing coaching programme while developing new initiatives that increase participation and help grow club membership.
Key Responsibilities (Essential)
· Year-Round Coaching: Plan, organise and deliver a high-quality coaching programme for both juniors and adults of all ages and abilities throughout the year.
· Holiday Camps: Organise and run fun, engaging tennis camps during the Christmas, Easter and Summer school holidays.
· Programme Development: Continue to develop and grow the coaching programme, increasing participation across all age groups and creating opportunities for new and existing members.
· Administration & ClubSpark: Manage court bookings, coaching schedules and holiday camp registrations using the ClubSpark platform, maintaining regular communication with the club committee.
· Junior Championships: Organise and run the annual Junior Club Championships.
· Individual Coaching: Deliver private one-to-one lessons for members wishing to develop their game.
· Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with players, parents, committee members and local schools, promoting tennis and encouraging greater participation within the club.
· Club Events: Support club open days, social events, competitions and membership recruitment activities throughout the year.
· Safeguarding: Ensure all coaching activities are delivered in accordance with LTA safeguarding, equality and diversity standards.
What We Are Also Looking For (Desirable)
· Introduce and develop new activities such as Walking Tennis and Pickleball to broaden participation.
· Continue to strengthen links with local schools and community groups to encourage new players into the club.
· Be an active player who is happy to represent and, ideally, captain one of our adult league teams.
· Support the development of assistant coaches, DofE Award participants and volunteers where appropriate.
Nestled at the picturesque gateway to the Peak District, Ashbourne Tennis Club is a thriving, forward-thinking community club with a growing membership, dedicated to promoting tennis for all ages and abilities.
The club boasts excellent facilities, featuring four outdoor macadam courts, three of which are fully floodlit, enabling year-round coaching and play, together with a brand-new clubhouse offering kitchen and changing facilities.
Ashbourne is a highly active competitive and social hub within Derbyshire, supporting:
· 9 Senior Teams competing in the Derby Summer League
· 6 Senior Teams competing in the Derby Winter League
· A vibrant junior and adult membership (with circa 200 members)
· Strong, established links with local schools and the School Sport Partnership
With a supportive volunteer committee and an engaged membership, we provide the ideal environment for a passionate coach to build a successful coaching business.
The successful candidate will inherit an established coaching programme with excellent opportunities for further growth through schools coaching, holiday camps, adult beginner programmes, Walking Tennis, Pickleball and increased private coaching.
The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader on and off the court. You will have the business drive to operate a successful self-employed coaching programme while becoming a friendly, well-known face who is fully integrated into club life.
We are looking for the successful candidate to be in post from September 2026.
Essential Criteria
· LTA Level 3 (Coach) qualification or above.
· Current LTA Coach Accreditation, including valid Safeguarding, First Aid and Enhanced DBS certification.
· Proven experience of managing coaching programmes, court bookings and schedules using ClubSpark.
· Experience of planning and delivering structured, engaging coaching sessions for juniors and adults of all abilities.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with parents, players, committee members and local schools.
· Ability to operate successfully as a self-employed coach, managing your own administration, marketing and client relationships.
· A passion for growing participation and creating a welcoming environment for players of all ages and abilities.
Desirable Criteria
· Experience delivering school coaching programmes.
· Experience organising competitions and holiday camps.
· Experience introducing new participation initiatives such as Cardio Tennis, Walking Tennis or Pickleball.
· Experience developing assistant coaches or mentoring volunteers.
