Oliver Crawford reaches ATP Challenger final, Liam Broady lifts singles title in Budapest & three wheelchair tennis trophies

Crawford makes third career Challenger final

Oliver Crawford reached his first ATP Challenger Tour final in two years over the weekend as the British star continued his impressive form at the Zhangiagang Challenger in China.

Crawford pulled together a run of four victories to reach the final in Zhangiagang before losing out to Japanese Davis Cup star Sho Shimabukuro 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the final.

The 26-year-old Brit is enjoying strong results at the moment having made two semi-finals and two quarter-finals in his last four Challenger events prior to the final run in China.

Crawford has jumped 41 places in the live ATP rankings to what would be a new career-high at world No.187. Rankings are set to update after the US Open.

Three British titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour

Former world No.93 Liam Broady featured amongst he title-winners last week – claiming his second ITF $15k singles trophy of the season so far.

Broady beat fellow Brit Matthew Summers in the semi-final before an emphatic comeback victory over Hungary’s Matyas Fuele in the final, coming through 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.

It marks Broady’s 11th career singles title and is the first time he’s won multiple trophies in a single season since 2014.

22-year-old Max Basing captured his third career ITF singles title at the M15 Nakhon Pathom in Thailand.

Basing – who played for Standford in the NCAA – defeated Czech Dominic Palan in the final 7-6(6), 6-2 to lift the title.

Finn Murgett reached the singles and doubles final of the M15 Monastir last week.

The 23-year-old Brit finished runner-up in the singles to Jorge Plans 6-2, 6-4 but came through as champion in the doubles. Murgett teamed up with Spain’s Ignasi Forcano to beat Joe Leather and Tyler Stice in the final 6-4, 6-4.

Reid leads wheelchair titles

Gordon Reid led the British wheelchair tennis titles last week with strong showing at the ITF2S College Park in the US.

Top seed Reid didn’t drop a set all week, knocking out China’s Zhenxu Ji in the semi-finals before defeating third seed Takuya Miki 6-4, 7-6(5) in the final.

It’s Reid’s first singles title of the season and sets him up well for the US Open wheelchair tennis draws, starting on Tuesday 2 September.

Over in France, Oliver Cox won the quad singles title at the ITFFS Decines-Charpieu – winning all three of his matches in the round-robin event. This is Cox’s third singles trophy of the year.

Ellie Robertson took home the women’s doubles title with France’s Sandrine Cauderon Paulin – beating Laura-Line Legendre and Zoe Maras 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
