Opening Tennis Up: LTA Announces Changes to Venue Registration System

• 4 MINUTE READ

As part of the LTA’s vision to open tennis up, the LTA venue registration scheme is being revamped and updated to offer a wider range of benefits and make it more relevant and accessible to all types of venues including clubs, parks, commercial operators and educational establishments.

Venue Registration is the annual scheme for tennis venues across Great Britain to become an LTA member. Registered venues receive a wide range of benefits, support and services from the LTA and LTA County Associations. There are currently over 2,700 active tennis venues registered.

The new approach, developed in consultation with a broad cross section of tennis venues, offers a variety of different membership packages, which will support a greater and more diverse range of venues to be registered, providing more relevant packages of support.

The new LTA registration proposition will offer high quality services, benefits & value for money and has been designed to help venues better manage their tennis facilities, plus also with attracting & retaining new members – with the ultimate aim of supporting venues to grow and retain membership, increase participation and be financially sustainable. Details are set out below:

Existing Venues

Existing venues who are already registered will continue to access all of their benefits – including free LTA membership for their members and where applicable, access to the Wimbledon ballot, a free ClubSpark account, access to LTA programmes and competition as well as access to the LTA’s new national tennis booking website Rally - helping venues to secure future financial sustainability in the wake of Covid-19. Existing venues will also be able to take advantage of a new digital registration process via a modern technology platform, making registration quicker and easier.

New Venues

Tennis is played within a wide range of environments and it’s important that our support scheme reflects that. We want every tennis venue regardless of their shape or size to benefit from our support and feel part of the tennis family.

New venues who register with the LTA will have access to a more appropriate set of benefits at an appropriate price point, making registration more accessible and providing venues with more relevant support. New registration packages for education establishments will not carry a charge and new packages for local authorities and parks will have increased flexibility to accommodate a wide range of needs. New packages will also include free access to LTA membership.

Speaking about the venue registration changes, the LTA’s Head of Clubs, Counties and Volunteering Abbie Lench commented: ‘The LTA’s vision is to make tennis relevant, accessible, welcoming and enjoyable for all. As part of this, we are revamping our current venue registration process to cater for the needs of all tennis venues. Tennis is played within a wide range of environments and it’s important that our support scheme reflects that. We want every tennis venue regardless of their shape or size to benefit from our support and feel part of the tennis family. Being an LTA Registered Venue also requires adherence to safeguarding standards, a key part of offering players a safe and enjoyable tennis experience.’

The 2020/2021 Venue Registration scheme will open in Autumn 2020. For more details about venue registration, or to find out how to become an LTA Accredited venue, click here.

All venues that wish to register to LTA and take advantage of the range of support and benefits on offer are required to meet our Safeguarding Standards. Head to our Safeguarding Standards page for more information.
