31-year-old Lloyd Glasspool has become the new British No.1 in men’s doubles following his maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon with partner Julian Cash.
Glasspool and Cash made history in becoming the first British duo to lift the Wimbledon men’s doubles title for 89 years after defeating Rinky Hijikata and David Pel in the final.
The win has seen Glasspool rise to a career-high ranking at world No.3 and has now leapfrogged last year’s Wimbledon champion Henry Patten to take the crown of British No.1.
It’s a just reward for an impressive year on the ATP Tour having teamed up with Cash for the first time at the backend of 2024.
Since then, Glasspool and Cash have won five ATP titles together and reached eight finals – becoming one of the dominant teams on the tour.
After winning their first doubles trophy in Tokyo last year, the Brits have gone on to be crowned champions in Brisbane, Doha, Queen’s, Eastbourne and now Wimbledon. They’ve also reached ATP Masters 1000 finals in Miami and Monte-Carlo.
It’s their form on the grass that has been the standout part of their season so far and has been the biggest contributor to their meteoric rise.
They played four tournaments on the grass, reached the final in all four, won three titles and finished with a winning record of 17-1.
In the past, Glasspool has ranked as high as world No.7 in 2023 during a strong partnership with Finland’s Harri Heliovaara.
