BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells 2026: Emma Raducanu loses to Amanda Anisimova in third round
• 1 minute read
British No.1 Emma Raducanu is bowed out in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells against 2025 Wimbledon and US Open runner-up Amanda Anisimova.
Sixth seed Anisimova was in impressive form as she knocked out Raduacnu 6-1, 6-1 to move on to the fourth round.
The American has now improved her record to 3-2 in all matches against the 2021 US Open champion.
Raducanu thrashed Anastasia Zakharova in the second round but couldn’t find her rhythm against the world No.6. Anisimova set the tone with a break in the opening game and the American only lost three points behind serve in the first set.
After going behind 3-0 in the second set, Raducanu managed to get herself on the board with only her second hold of serve, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt Anisimova’s flow.
Last year’s HSBC Championships finalist hit 21 winners compared to Raducanu’s two in just under an hour to claim a stand out victory.
"It's difficult to read much into the game, other than the starting the point really, as there were no rallies,” Raducanu said following her defeat.
"I have to look at what I achieved in the last nine days of practice since I arrived here, and the first match was a good one for me.
"Today I could let it get me down if I wanted to, but overall I think the days have been better than not."
Jack Draper, Cam Norrie and Sonay Kartal are all set to compete in third round action later today in Indian Wells.
Defending champion Draper faces a tough challenge against 19th seed Francisco Cerundolo, with the winner potentially facing Novak Djokovic in round four.
Meanwhile, Norrie is set to play sixth seed and recent Rotterdam title winner Alex De Minaur and Kartal will take on 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys.
