Top seed Malek Jaziri suffered an upset on Thursday as he was knocked out in the third round of the Murray Trophy – Glasgow.

Jaziri was well beaten by Alexandre Muller who took the match 6-3, 6-1. The Frenchman will play Spain’s Nicola Kuhn in the quarter-final after the No.7 seed battled past Mirza Basic to win 6-3, 6-4.

After his win Muller said: “It’s my biggest victory in my young career. He [Jaziri] is ranked 111 so I am very happy. I think he didn’t play his best level today, but I am very happy with my victory.

“This is my first indoor tournament of the year so I am very happy to reach the quarter-finals. I play against Kuhn in the next round so that will be a big match tomorrow.”

Elsewhere, India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan powered past the in-form Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-1 to book his place in the quarter-finals. Ramanathan has made the final on four occasions on the Challenger Tour but will be looking for his first piece of silverware this weekend.

In the longest and closest singles match of the day on Centre Court, Daniel Masur defeated No.3 seed Quentin Halys in two tie-break sets 7-6(5), 7-6(4). Masur is one win away from matching his recent run to the semi-final in Mallorca.

Jamie Murray is back in doubles action with Australian partner John-Patrick-Smith not before 18:30 tonight. The pair take on Turkish duo Altug Celikbilek and Cem Ilkel in the second round.
