Great Britain have been placed in Group E and drawn against Kazakhstan and the Netherlands in the round-robin group stage of the 2019 Davis Cup Finals.

The inaugural event, to be hosted on the hard courts of La Caja Magica in Madrid from 18-24 November, will see 18 nations come together to battle for the historic Davis Cup trophy.

The first three days of the competion will follow a round-robin format, before the winners of each group, along with the next two top teams, advance to knockout stages. Ties will feature two singles matches and one doubles rubber, all of which will be best-of-three tie-break sets.

The 18-nation field features 2018 semi-finalists France, Spain, Croatia and the USA, along with the 12 prevailing teams from February's Qualifiers; Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Russia and Serbia. Great Britain and Argentina complete the line-up after being awarded wild cards last September. Both nations have been crowned Davis Cup champions in recent years - Argentina in 2016 and Great Britain in 2015.

By defeating Belgium in the 2015 final, Great Britain ended a 79-year hiatus to become champions for an epic tenth time. The achievement also tied them in third place with France for the most Davis Cup titles (after the USA and Australia). In November, Leon Smith's men will be looking to add an 11th trophy to the cabinet as they bid to become the first-time winners of the new Davis Cup competition.

Following the draw, Great Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith said: “In this competition there are no easy draws for anyone and under the new format there will be a lot of unknowns for all of us. Amazing we have drawn Kazakhstan, like the women have in Fed Cup and the Netherlands are certainly not to be taken lightly.

We are very much looking forward to competing in the revamped Davis Cup Finals in Madrid and will be doing all we can as a team to make our country proud. “
