The Brits brilliantly kickstarted their Davis Cup Finals campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands at Madrid's Caja Magica.

Murray makes battling Davis Cup return

Andy Murray opened the tie in thrilling fashion with an epic 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Tallon Griekspoor. Playing in his first Davis Cup match since 2016, the three-time Grand Slam champion fought back after losing the first set tie-break to force a deciding set and displayed plenty of grit and determination on his road to victory. Despite finding himself down at 4-1 to the inspired Dutchman in the decider, and again at 4-1 down in the third set tie-break, he dug deep to pull through and give Great Britain a 1-0 lead over the Netherlands.

Evans falls to an inspired Haase

In GB's second singles match of the day, it was over to Dan Evans who faced Robin Haase. The British No.1 got off to a great start by taking the opening set, but Holland's former world No.33 proved resilient to turn the match around and win 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Murray and Skupski clinch doubles decider

Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski took on Wesley Koolhof and Jean-Julien Rojer in the third rubber of the day. With Koolhof ranked doubles world No.14 and Roger at No.20, the Dutch presented a strong challenge, but the Brits rose to it and claimed the opening set 6-4. The Dutchmen battled back and took a 5-2 lead in the second set, but Murray and Skupski held their nerve to prevail 6-4, 7-6(6).
