Smith, Keothavong, Murray & Rusedski named Battle of the Brits captains

• 3 MINUTE READ

Team captains for next week's St James's Place Battle of the Brits Team Tennis competition have today been announced. The event will see Britain's top men's and women's players drafted in to one of two teams as the go head-to-head in the competition organised by Jamie Murray. Great Britain's Davis and Fed Cup captains Leon Smith and Anne Keothavong have been named, alongside former British No.1 Greg Rusedski and Judy Murray, as the captains to lead the teams into battle.

Leon Smith

With 10 years as the GB Davis Cup captain under his belt, Leon Smith brings a wealth of experience to his team and knows exactly what it takes to handle high pressure situations. The 2015 Davis Cup winner will be keen to continue his fine record in team tennis and demonstrate his fantastic ability to get the best out of the British players.

Anne Keothavong

Similar to Smith, our second captain and former British No.1 and current British Fed Cup captain, Anne Keothavong, will be looking to bring her leadership qualities to the team and lead them to victory. Having had the experience as both a player and a coach in these types of team events, who better to head up the team than her.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be named one of the team captains for the upcoming Battle of the Brits Team Tennis event" said Keothavong. "It's going to be an incredible opportunity for the younger players to compete in an event like this with our top players and hopefully fans will be able to get to know the players a bit better, as they'll be the faces of British tennis for years to come."

Judy Murray

Tennis coach and former Fed Cup captain Judy Murray is the third name to be announced as a team captain. Mum to tournament organiser and competitor Jamie Murray, Murray has an excellent track record as a team coach and will be keen to get one over on her sons should they face each other.

"I can guarentee I'll have the best team on my bench - I hope I don't have Andy because he doesn't listen to me" Murray joked.

Greg Rusedski

Completing our captains line-up is former world No.4 and British No.1 Greg Rusedski. Rusedski played at the highest level throughout his career and his experience of winning on the court will prove invaluable for the Brits taking part. Now often working as a professional commentator and pundit for tennis broadcasters, Rusedski will know more than most about the strengths and weaknesses of each players game and will hope this can help him get the most out of his team.
