Lexus Ilkley Open 2025: Jack Pinnington Jones through to the semi-finals after a dominant performance in Ilkley
• 2 MINUTE READ
Jack Pinnington Jones is the last Brit standing in the singles draw as he booked his spot to the final four at the Lexus Ilkley Open following a straight set victory.
The British wild card needed just an hour and 23 minutes to knock out eighth seed Martin Landaluce 7-5, 6-2.
The world No.340 will now face two-time ATP Challenger titleholder Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki in tomorrow’s semi-final after he defeated British qualifier Oliver Crawford 6-4, 6-2 in the last round.
This is the second seeded player the 22-year-old has taken on in Ilkley after he defeated countryman and third seed Billy Harris in a three set battle in the previous round.
"Amazing, it's been such a dream week so far, I'd have bit your hand off to say I'm in the semi-finals this week," Pinnington Jones said.
"It's been so cool and I'm grateful for it and trying to enjoy the opportunity I've got.
"I'm feeling really comfortable on the grass, I feel like I've got good momentum, confidence and I'm playing well. The main thing now is recovery and making sure I can physically handle this high level I'm playing at that I'm not really used to."
The young Brit looked comfortable on the grass as he battled through a tight first set. His clinical serve proved to be the difference between him and Landaluce, with Pinnington Jones landing 88% of first serves and winning 23 out of 28 points behind it.
After the score line staying level throughout the first set, the Texas Christian University alum took the final three games to push in front.
Pinnington Jones built on his momentum going into the second, quickly going up a break to give him a comfortable lead. In a mirror image to the opener, the Brit confidently reeled off the final three games on the bounce to book his place in just his second career ATP Challenger semi-final.
