Seniors Tennis individual competitions
Seniors tennis competitions are open to all levels of players aged 30 & over - so whether you are a seasoned regular or new to competing, there's something for everyone!
Competitions run in five-year age gaps and players first become eligible to compete when they are in their 30th year. After that you can move upwards through the five-year age groups, always from the year in which you attain your new age. There are formal competitions you can compete in right up to the 90+ age group.
Start competing
The idea of starting or returning to tennis as a senior player can seem daunting. However many who take the first steps find it hugely rewarding and less difficult than expected.
You don't have to be a member of a tennis club to start competing. Many venues offer friendly competition for singles and doubles via Local Tennis Leagues. Learn more about what these are and where they operate here:

The LTA calculates your ranking as follows:
- Introduction of a doubles ranking, alongside the current singles ranking, incorporating domestic and international ITF World Tennis Masters Tour events for GBR players only.
- Separate singles and doubles ranking lists to include Male 30+, Female 30+ to Male 90+ and Female 90+ ranking categories.
- Seniors singles and doubles ranking to be made up of a player's best 4 singles/best 4 doubles results (which may be from the previous age group, excluding Open) within the previous 52 weeks.
- Multiplier of 2 to be applied to both UK and international ITF World Tennis Masters Tour point allocations.
- ITF World Tennis Masters Tour regulations used for point allocations, whereby regardless of the number of entries in the draw, points are allocated to players.
- LTA senior rankings are available using this link: LTA Senior Rankings.
THE ITF calculates your ranking as follows:
- To be ranked on the ITF World Masters Tour individual rankings in singles or in doubles a player must have registered for a valid IPIN membership and have competed in an ITF event.
- Seniors singles and doubles ranking to be made up of a player's best 4 singles/best 4 doubles results (which may be from the previous age group) within the previous 52 weeks.
- The number of points awarded depends how far a player progresses in an ITF tournament and the grade of the tournament.
- ITF Masters rankings are available using this link: ITF World Tennis Masters Tour Rankings.
Should ranking points of two individuals be equal, the points gained in the higher grade of tournament determines positioning.
No - any player can enter. Should you wish to start competing it is helpful to obtain an ITF World Tennis Number.
In the event of a tournament being oversubscribed, players with the lowest ranking or World Tennis Number could be placed on a wait list pending any vacancies arising.
Tournaments are graded to indicate the level of players that they expect to attract. If you are new to seniors tennis it is advisable to start playing at a lower level tournament. The highest level tournaments are classified as Grade 1 events by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) or ITF MT1000 by the ITF (International Tennis Federation). Lower level tournaments start at LTA Grade 7 or ITF MT100.
